What You Should Know

Serve Stations

All stations in on-campus restaurants will be served by one of Dining Services’ associates, including salad bars, dessert stations and similar items. Dining Services will continue to offer robust customization at these stations, but self-service has been removed for guest safety.

Compostable Containers

All dining hall take-out meals are served in compostable take-out packaging. These containers add convenience for guests who would like to dine on the go.

Online Ordering

New online ordering will be available utilizing the Grub Hub app in select retail restaurants across campus. Students will be able to set up their ECU 1Card as a tender of payment by going to the settings tab and clicking campus dining. Save $3 off your first order with the code SNACK. Download the app now.

Dining Services’ COVID-19 Response

ECU Dining Services is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. Additional safety processes and protocols have been implemented to help ensure the safety of dining operations.

LIBRARIES

Joyner Library and Music Library

The Joyner Library and Music Library buildings are open only to ECU students, faculty and staff with a valid ECU 1Card, as well as cooperative borrowers, at this time.

Regular spring semester hours began Jan. 19, the first day of classes. Visit ECU Libraries’ Hours of Operation for virtual and building hours, along with information about additional services.

Laupus Library

Laupus Library is open to ECU students, faculty and staff with a valid ECU 1Card. Non-ECU users will need to contact Laupus Library ahead of time to make an appointment with a librarian.

For hours and additional information on library use changes, visit Laupus Library’s COVID-19 Operations Plan.

CAMPUS LIVING

Residence halls opened Jan. 14, with students in single rooms. A PCR test was required for residential students prior to their return to campus, and ongoing surveillance testing will be required throughout the spring semester.

Learn more about entry and ongoing surveillance testing plans and isolation and quarantine housing — and get the latest updates for residential students on the COVID-19 and Campus Living webpage.

Since the West End NSO is closed, where do I get my mail?

Students may collect their mail at the College Hill NSO in Ballard East. A special Transit route from West End to College Hill on the quarter hour will allow you to easily get to College Hill to pick up a meal, stop by the NSO, collect packages and more.

What is ECU doing to make residence halls safer?

The new testing plan and single occupancy in halls both will help keep Pirate Nation safer. The buildings will not be as occupied, so maintaining distance in restrooms and elevators will be easier. Housekeeping staff have additional cleaning guidelines to follow. Soap dispensers and sanitizer stations are available throughout buildings. Guests at residence halls are restricted — no overnight guests, no guests in the halls.

How can I safely connect with other Campus Living students?

Residents received an email with Facebook links for their particular building so you can check in with fellow residents, learn about programs and activities and build connections with other students. When meeting face to face, wear your mask. Make good decisions about building a “bubble” for yourself — gathering only with a few friends at a time who are also following safety guidelines.

CAMPUS RECREATION

Campus Recreation & Wellness is open and ready to serve Pirate Nation. Limited hours are offered at the Eakin Student Recreation and Health Sciences Campus Recreation centers, as well as North Recreation and Blount Sports complexes; and facility access reservations are required.

Visit Campus Recreation & Wellness’ Coronavirus Impacts page for more information about changes in service.

What You Should Know

  • A mask (or face covering) must be worn correctly at all times while in any Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) facility including while exercising.
  • You must register for facility access and all CRW programs to include specific workout times, indoor climbing wall, indoor pool and all in-person activities.
  • You must clean equipment after each use.
  • There is no open basketball play, towel service or locker rentals available until further notice.
  • In-person and virtual programming is available for group fitness classes, personal training, group training and intramural sports.

TRANSIT

ECU Transit began service for on- and off-campus locations on Jan. 19, the first day of classes. The spring 2021 rider guide is available. Riders may track their vehicle’s location and current passenger occupancy using BusTime.ecu.edu or by downloading the NextBus app.

For bus schedules, more information and details on safety protocols in place, visit the Transit Response due to COVID-19 page.

Service Adjustments as of Feb. 1

In response to lower than expected ridership, the following schedule adjustments will be in effect beginning Monday, Feb. 1:

  • Route 507 Copper Beech and 551 33 East/The Davis will run combined weekday service as Route 553 Copper Beach/The Davis/33 East from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with service every 30 minutes.
  • Route 610 Minges Park & Ride will serve all stops every 15 minutes on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

STUDENT HEALTH/TESTING

Student Health Services is open. Visit the SHS website for hours of operation and more information.

As part of our Return of Pirate Nation safety plan, ECU is offering COVID-19 testing for members of our community, including mandatory ongoing surveillance testing for students living on campus and multiple testing options that are strongly encouraged for other students, faculty and staff.

This testing will help us identify cases sooner, activate contact tracing procedures and isolate and quarantine any individuals who have tested positive to help prevent the spread.

Visit ECU’s COVID-19 Campus Testing website for more details, information on testing times and locations, and frequently asked questions.

COUNSELING/MENTAL HEALTH

The Center for Counseling and Student Development is operating remotely utilizing “teletherapy” via WebEx for spring semester. Students interested in starting counseling or who are returning to counseling during the spring can contact the CCSD office to request an appointment.

Daytime and after-hours crisis services are available by calling 252-328-6661. For emergencies, call 911.

For additional information about available services, along with national, state and local crisis resources, visit CCSD’s Spring 2021 Services page.
