This fall, the East Carolina University Honors College will welcome 20 new Brinkley-Lane Scholars to campus.
This year’s class is composed of athletes, volunteers, musicians, a published author, a bakery owner and the program’s first international scholar. They represent 11 North Carolina counties and Brazil, and plan to study majors ranging from engineering and public health to marketing and biochemistry.
The Brinkley-Lane Scholars program is the most prestigious undergraduate award offered at ECU. The four-year merit scholarship recognizes outstanding academic performance, commitment to community engagement and strong leadership skills. Recipients receive a fully funded education, covering the cost of tuition, fees, room and board for both in-state and out-of-state students and high impact experiences, as well as the ability to explore the world with a $5,000 study abroad stipend. Scholars benefit from access to an array of leadership opportunities, research with award-winning faculty and a robust alumni network.
The competitive selection process consisted of multiple rounds of application review by approximately 150 ECU faculty, staff and alumni. Of nearly 1,000 applications, 54 finalists were selected to visit campus for an in-person interview as part of the February Selection Sunday event. While in Greenville, finalists learned more about the program and connected with current students, faculty, alumni and friends of the program.
