ECU to celebrate chancellor installation, Founders Week

The installation ceremony for East Carolina University’s 12th chancellor, Dr. Philip Rogers, will take place Thursday, March 24 as part of the university’s Founders Week celebration. The ceremony will be in Wright Auditorium on ECU’s main campus beginning at 10 a.m.

UNC System President Peter Hans will administer the oath of office to Rogers, and the ceremony will feature special presentations and performances. Weather permitting, a lunch will be served on the university mall outside Wright Auditorium.In addition to Rogers’ installation ceremony, several events are scheduled for ECU’s Founders Week, celebrating 115 years of the university’s contributions to eastern North Carolina and beyond.

About Dr. Philip Rogers

Dr. Philip Rogers became East Carolina University’s 12th chancellor March 15, 2021. Originally from Greenville, North Carolina, Rogers served as a policy analyst for ECU in 2007 and as chief of staff from 2008-2013. He then spent seven years as the senior vice president of the American Council on Education, where he helped institutions navigate complex challenges facing the global higher education landscape. He is the great-grandson of an early graduate of the East Carolina Teachers Training School and his wife, Dr. Rebekah P. Rogers, is a two-time ECU alumna.
