ECU celebrates the season with holiday art and music events
GREENVILLE, N.C. (11/14/24) — East Carolina University is getting into the holiday spirit with a lineup of festive art and music events open to the public.
The annual ECU School of Art and Design Holiday Exhibition and Sale will return to the Jenkins Fine Arts Center on Nov. 21-23. Artwork created by ECU’s undergraduate and graduate students will be available for purchase, including photography, textiles, jewelry, sculpture, paintings, ceramics and more. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4-8 p.m., with the show continuing Friday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In keeping with tradition, the ECU Chamber Singers, University Chorale, and Concert Choir will present “Sounds of the Season” on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville. The festive performance is free and open to the public, with a live stream available online.
That same weekend, ECU will host a handblown glass holiday art sale on Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the College of Fine Arts and Communication office at the Proctor-Younge House. Glass ornaments, flowers, vases, cups, bowls and sculptures created at ECU’s GlasStation will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the facility and programs. The sale will coincide with Greenville’s First Friday Art Walk on Dec. 6 from 5-8 p.m.
Additionally, ECU professors, students and community musicians will participate in an outdoor TubaChristmas performance on Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on the front porch of the Proctor-Younge House. Any musician who plays tuba, baritone, euphonium or sousaphone is invited to join by making a $10 donation to the Harvey Phillips Foundation and must register at the Proctor-Younge House from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
