7 Fast Facts About ECU's Spring Testing Plan

CAMPUS LIVING RESIDENTS

ECU has developed a Spring 2021 Campus Living reentry testing plan, along with procedures for isolation and quarantine housing.

1. Students living in the residence halls will be required to submit a negative COVID molecular test prior to move in.

  • Test may not be taken prior to Jan. 7, 2021.
    • Options:
      • Take test with student’s own preferred provider — submit negative test result to Student Health Services (SHS) through MyPirateChart or via email to gotquestions@ecu.edu. Look up free testing events and test sites on the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services website.
      • Take test through SHS during the drop-off period (Jan. 7-10). This round of testing isn’t free; the cost is the responsibility of the student. SHS will file insurance on behalf of the student. Students should call SHS with questions about insurance coverage.
  • Students who test positive during this time will be asked to isolate at home and must be cleared by medical personnel before they can move into the residence hall.

2. Students living off campus are strongly encouraged to get tested and have a negative test result before returning to their off-campus residence.

3. SHS will coordinate campus-wide testing the week of Feb. 1, 2021. All students will be strongly encouraged to participate; however, students living in residence halls will be required to participate.

4. Students living in the residence halls will continue to undergo regular testing throughout the semester beginning the week of Feb. 15, 2021 (at least 25% of the Spring 2021 housing population each week).

5. Testing will be available to all students, faculty, and staff throughout the semester on both campuses (Main and Health Sciences). Testing clinic dates/times/locations will be communicated to campus.

6. Beginning February 2021, the testing program provided by Student Health Services will include free saliva testing in coordination with the Brody School of Medicine. Positive saliva tests will be confirmed with nasopharyngeal swaps.

7. Specific student populations (i.e., student athletes) may be subject to more specific/frequent testing protocols.
