Did You Know? Main Campus Student Center Facts
The Main Campus Student Center is a you-can’t-miss-it 220,000-square-foot facility that is a visual representation of East Carolina University’s connection to people and industry of eastern North Carolina, the City of Greenville and our Pirate traditions.
The intersection of East 10th and Charles streets is where modern meets traditional. Here’s what makes the new student center, which opened Jan. 7, 2019, extra special.
Three stories tall
Enough glass inside and out to cover an entire football field
Electrochromatic glass allows windows to
automatically tint according to the weather
Hot-water coils beneath floor provide invisible heating
Years in the making, the building pairs cutting-edge technology with time-honored Pirate roots such as the ECU creed on the main staircase and the outline of eastern North Carolina on the floor of the main ballroom, a nod to our home state with an X marking the spot for Greenville, of course.
Out front, lofty ‘ECU’ letters make a bold statement, welcoming Pirates and visitors to the new front porch and living room of the university.
The concrete reinforcement for the project weighs more than
350 Chevrolet pickup trucks.
The primary 14-inch chilled water pump in the regional plant can fill 75 bathtubs in just under one minute.
There are more than 15 miles of mechanical and plumbing piping installed.
The black box theater seats 247 people.
There are 724 parking spots in the parking deck.
The backup generator for the center can fully power
405 homes.
