East Carolina University cares deeply about the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. The health and well-being of our entire community is the highest priority. Students returning to campus are being asked to follow a set of guidelines to help us ensure the safety of our campus community and our neighbors in the greater Greenville area.

We trust you will follow the three Ws (wear, wait, wash) and avoid in-person social gatherings off campus where these guidelines are not implemented.

Your actions and choices this year will have an enormous impact, not just on your life and education, but on the health and welfare of every person with whom you come into contact. You are part of a thriving community and you need to take every precaution to ensure your well-being and that of others.

I hope that your concern for others and genuine desire to have a traditional college experience will lead you to follow the guidelines from our university on and off campus as we work together to defeat COVID-19.

Individuals who choose to disregard the guidelines requested by the university, such as wearing a face covering or gathering in large groups, can face consequences for non-compliance with the Student Code of Conduct. The sanctions include one or more of the following: a written warning; removal from class; probation; and suspension from the University.

Students may seek alternative accommodations to wearing a face covering through ECU’s Disability Support Services.

Each member of Pirate Nation is responsible for keeping our community safe. Together we will weather this storm. We are the Pirates of ECU!

Sincerely,

Lynn M. Roeder, Ph.D.
