ECU’s MFT, MedFT programs receive reaccreditation

The Marriage and Family Therapy and Medical Family Therapy programs at East Carolina University were recently reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.

In addition to being fully supported by the commission, the programs received zero stipulations to their reaccreditation.

The accreditation process included site visits and a self-study of both programs which topped out at over 4,000 pages.

Dr. Angela Lamson, professor and director of both programs, explained why the programs are so highly regarded. “Certainly our programs are rigorous and include several courses and competencies that ensure that our students at the master’s level have a high clinical competency and that those in our doctoral program have a high research competency,” said Lamson.

“With our students providing over 8,000 hours of therapy a year, it is important to ensure that they are making a difference in Pitt County, North Carolina, and nationally. Therefore, we survey our stakeholders regularly to gauge opinions of our programs, students, and services,” she said.

The programs will be showcased at the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education’s training for programs seeking accreditation.
