Important Campus Updates

Information on admissions, housing, orientation and registration

On Monday, April 27, 2020, interim Chancellor Mitchelson announced ECU’s plan to start the fall semester on time and on campus.

East Carolina University continues to adjust and adapt during these challenging times associated with COVID-19. For our incoming ECU Pirates, we want to share some important information about action steps that you are required to complete in preparation for the fall semester.

Please read the following message in its entirety as it contains information about enrollment, housing, new student orientation and class registration for the fall.

ECU Admissions

The ECU enrollment deposit deadline has been extended to June 1. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to submit your deposit soon so that you have access to the housing application. If you have concerns about the enrollment deposit, please contact your admissions counselor or the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@ecu.edu or at 252-328-6640.

ECU Campus Living (Housing)

Campus Living is continuing to prepare to welcome students this fall. Students who want to confirm or enter a roommate preference need to complete their online Campus Living contract (or revisit their already submitted contract) by May 1st.

ECU Campus Living will continue to accept contracts after May 1st, but earlier is always better in terms of getting your assignment and possible neighborhood preferences.

Keep checking your ECU email for updates from Campus Living as we will be sending out emails on helpful topics from everything from “what to bring” to “how to do laundry.”

New Student Orientation

This summer’s New Student Orientation has transitioned to being delivered fully online instead of the on-campus two-day program. Please note that despite this change, New Student Orientation is still required for incoming ECU students enrolling for the Fall 2020 semester.

The online version of New Student Orientation will be a multi-step process providing an opportunity for you to learn about ECU and the programs and services offered to aid in your success.

  • Online Orientation Modules (Required – Must Register): The first phase of the online orientation program is a series of modules that will introduce the  resources and services available to you as an ECU student. These online modules will take no longer than 90 minutes in total to complete and must be completed prior to you registering for classes.
    • Students will register for orientation through PiratePort starting on June 8, 2020. The orientation fee has been reduced to $85 (regularly $155) and
includes the student 1Card (ECU ID card), online modules and programs, an on-campus program prior to the start of fall classes and additional information for families.
  • Live ECU Events throughout summer: In addition to the required modules, a series of live events (using platforms such as Instagram Live, Facebook Live, WebEx, etc.) will be held throughout June, July and August. Each session will provide ample opportunities for students and family members to ask questions. These sessions will allow you to learn more about your college and major, academic resources, and provide helpful tips for a successful transition to the university. Interest sessions will also be held about topics such as study abroad, Greek life, Campus Recreation and Wellness and more!
You’ll also be able to connect with current ECU students who will answer any questions you may have.

Once again, registration and access to the required portion of orientation will open on June 8th. You will not be able to register for classes until these modules have been completed. More information will be sent to your ECU email account and the orientation website during the month of May. Contact the Office of Student Transitions at 252-328-4173 or orientation@ecu.edu for specific questions.

Pirate Introduction to ECU Registration (PIER)

Pirate Introduction to ECU Registration (PIER) provides helpful guides for your first semester schedule and directs you through the necessary steps to begin your academic journey at ECU. Within 24 hours after successfully completing the required online orientation modules, you will be given access to PIER. After you have reviewed all “ports” on the PIER site, you will be ready to register for your first semester of classes.

If you have additional questions about PIER, contact your academic advising center.

We are very excited to see you on campus in August as we welcome you home to ECU, and we get ready to jump start your East Carolina University experience. Go Pirates!!
