STUDENT AND TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES GUIDANCE

As the campus, state and nation continue to navigate the effects of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, ECU is in the second week of fully alternative delivery courses and the vast majority of our employees are teleworking.

Following federal, state and health care provider guidelines for physical distancing, the UNC System has provided instructions that System universities should continue operating with minimal on-campus personnel through at least April 30.

In compliance with UNC System work and leave provisions effective between April 1 and April 30, the University has the discretion to continue to offer full or partial special leave provisions to any temporary employee (including students and retirees) based on available funds and operational needs; to discontinue such temporary employees; or to place these employees in inactive status.

Student Employees:

  • All current teleworking assignments or special leave provision approvals remain in effect through the end of April.
  • Most student employment jobs, regardless of funding source, will end April 30, 2020.
  • Contracted graduate assistants whose end date is May 15, 2020 and whose duties include assisting units with instructional and research responsibilities are an approved exception.
  • All other exceptions must be approved by the appropriate divisional vice chancellor or Director of Athletics.
  • Supervisors will communicate the job end date directly to student workers by April 15, 2020.

Non-Student Temporary Employees:

  • All current teleworking assignments or special leave provision approvals remain in effect through April 15, 2020.
  • Most temporary jobs, regardless of funding source, will be discontinued or deemed inactive on April 15, 2020.
  • Any exceptions must be approved by the Vice Chancellor or Director of Athletics.
  • Supervisors will communicate the job end date directly to temporary employees by April 8, 2020.

The university’s coronavirus website will continue to provide the latest updates and includes HR-related resources. If you have questions regarding COVID-19-related leave guidelines or this information, email employeerelations@ecu.edu.
