COMMUNITY IMMUNITY
ECU Pharmacy offers flu shot clinics
For Patients:
ECU Physicians patients not employed by the university can visit any ECU Pharmacy location to receive a flu shot this fall. Locations include the first floor of 517 Moye Blvd. and the Family Medicine Center, 101 Heart Drive.
For Students:
Students can receive a flu shot – with ECU 1Card and proof of insurance – at Student Health Services on ECU’s main campus.
East Carolina University’s annual influenza prevention program kicked off this September, and will include multiple clinics specifically for ECU employees and their families.
ECU Pharmacy will host six flu shot clinics this fall spanning both campuses:
• Sept. 28 – Brody Medical Sciences Building (2W-40)
• Oct. 5 – Murphy Center (Harvey Hall)
• Oct. 6 – School of Dental Medicine (Ross Hall Auditorium)
• Oct. 12 *CANCELED DUE TO HURRICANE MATTHEW*
• Oct. 19 – East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU
• Oct. 26 – The Croatan (Green Room)
• Nov. 2 – Mendenhall Student Center (Great Rooms 2&3)
At those convenient clinics, the co-pay for the vaccination will be waived for employees who present their insurance, ECU (banner) ID number and 1Card. Each will run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., with pediatric nurses available after 2 p.m.
“Proper hand washing and the flu vaccine are two of the best lines of defense we have against the flu virus,” said Dr. Todd Jackson, pharmacy director. “ECU Pharmacy services are an integral part of the ECU Physicians clinical team in providing support to faculty, staff, family members and the community. We are focused on serving the needs of all individuals.”
On the health sciences campus, the expectation is that 95 percent of faculty, staff and learners in the Division of Health Sciences be vaccinated against the flu. That percentage marks the vaccination rate needed to achieve community immunity.
“As health care providers, we share an obligation to protect our patients, their families, and ourselves,” noted Dr. Phyllis Horns, vice chancellor for health sciences, in a memo to campus.
“Even if you are not in a clinic, you are likely interacting…with someone who is. Our goal is to protect as many people as possible.”
