GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Local runners and walkers laced up their sneakers Sunday, Oct. 4, and brought in more than $18,000 for the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center at the inaugural Pink Ribbon 5K and Fun Run/Walk.

The event, held at Indigreen Industrial Park in Greenville, drew approximately 200 participants plus a dozen or so children who ran in the kids dash, said Dr. Rachel Raab, an ECU oncologist and co-organizer of the event. Many spectators also attended.

After expenses, Raab said, the event should net more than $15,500.

“We are really excited about this as all the proceeds will benefit breast cancer services at the LJCC,” she said.
