Parrott to speak at ECU’s Commencement Dec. 15
GREENVILLE, NC — Outgoing Greenville Mayor and ECU alumnus Don Parrott will deliver the keynote address at East Carolina University’s Dec. 15 commencement.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum, following a 9:30 a.m. concert by the ECU Wind Ensemble.
More than 3000 students are eligible to participate in commencement exercises this month. There are approximately 2170 students for the fall semester and 888 graduates from the summer, according to the ECU registrar’s office.
Parrott, a public accountant with a degree in business administration from ECU, has served as mayor since December 2001 and is active in the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and many other civic and professional organizations.
More than a dozen recognition ceremonies will be held for individual departments and colleges throughout the weekend.
ECU’s long-term plan regarding commencement and recognition ceremonies will take effect in Spring 2009, ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard said. The change in sequence, Ballard said, will enable degrees to be formally conferred during institutional commencement, to be followed by individual unit recognition ceremonies. The plan for 2009 is to hold ECU’s Institutional Ceremony at 10 a.m., Friday, May 8 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
