School of Allied Health Sciences announces student scholarship winners

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Three students in East Carolina University’s School of Allied Health Sciences have been awarded scholarships.

Nicole A. Jones, a student in the Department of Rehabilitation Studies, and Lori Cunningham, a student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, were awarded the Berbecker Foundation Fellowship valued at $3,000 each. Kathryn J. Weber, a Mohegan Lake, N.Y., native and student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, was awarded the Gravely Foundation Scholarship valued at $500. Weber received her bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College.

Jones is a first-year doctoral student in rehabilitation counseling and administration. She is a state-licensed professional counselor and school counselor. Jones is married with three children and active in Greenville community service.

Cunningham and Weber are graduate students in speech-language pathology. Cunningham’s research focuses on adults with dysphagia and stroke. She is a Raleigh native. Both are members of the Student Speech-Language Hearing Association. Weber serves as the newsletter editor and is helping plan the association’s February symposium focusing on dysphagia in the schools. Weber is a graduate assistant in the College of Education.

The Berbecker Foundation Fellowship is awarded on the basis of exceptional accomplishment, commitment and skill toward a career in allied health sciences. The Gravely Foundation Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and qualities of good citizenship within the university and contribution or dedication to the enhancement of the professional major.
