ECU Chancellor search narrowed
(Feb. 24, 2004) — The Chancellor Search Committee at East Carolina University has narrowed the list of candidates for the university’s top job to three finalists and plans to invite them to come to the campus next week.
Jim Talton, chair of the committee, described the finalists as “outstanding.” He said the committee would consult with the three finalists before deciding whether the campus visits would be open or private. Talton, who is also chairman of the ECU Board of Trustees, said he would prefer open meetings.
The committee met with seven candidates during the past week. Next week’s meetings will be scheduled for March 3, 4 and 5, Talton said.
The committee will meet for the final time on March 5 to discuss the finalists and the ECU trustees will also meet on March 5 to decide on a set of names to forward to University of North Carolina President Molly Corbett Broad.
President Broad will select the new ECU chancellor, subject to confirmation by the UNC Board of Governors, which meets on March 19.
The new chancellor will succeed Dr. William V. Muse, who resigned in September.
