Professor wins national advising award
Dr. Sherry Southard, an associate professor of English at East Carolina University, has been named an Outstanding Advisor Winner by the National Academic Advising Association. The association’s national awards honor individuals who who are making significant contirubions to the improvement of academic advising. Southard will receive the award in October at the association’s annual conference in Orlando, Fla. A member of the ECU faculty since 1989, Southard previously was a faculty member at Oklahoma State University. She holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Purdue University. In 1999, she received a university Outstanding Advisor for Majors Award and in 1994 she was the first recipient of the Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication, given by the Society for Technical Communication.
