Racers raise $1,000 for pediatric weight center

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Pounding the pavement Saturday netted approximately $1,000 for the East Carolina University Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center.

Some 115 runners braved windy weather to participate in the 17th annual Hamstring Hustle 5K Run/Walk, presented by the Medical Student Council at the Brody School of Medicine at ECU. First-year ECU medical student Sebastian DeMarco was the top male finisher with a time of 19 minutes, 18 seconds. The top female finisher was Brandy Gamboa, with a time of 20:16. The race wound through the Lynndale neighborhood in Greenville.
