Road race to benefit camps for kids
GREENVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 4, 2012) — A 5K road race and walk this Saturday will help raise money for two East Carolina University camps for children with cancer and sickle cell disease.
The Run for a Reason 5K, sponsored by the Greenville Women’s League, starts at 9 a.m. at Oakmont Baptist Church at 1100 Red Banks Road in Greenville. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. Online registration and information are available at http://www.runtheeast.com. Information is also available by emailing gwlruns@gmail.com.
Registration is $25. Proceeds benefit “camperships” at Camp Rainbow and Camp Hope, held each summer at Camp Don Lee near Arapahoe. The camps offer children with cancer and sickle cell disease, as well as their siblings, a chance to enjoy traditional summer camp activities such as swimming and sailing in a medically monitored environment.
Race organizers have invited campers and their families to attend the race and meet competitors.
