ECU English professor receives Fulbright
GREENVILLE, NC — An East Carolina English professor received a Fulbright grant to study and teach in Hungary in January 2008.
C.W. Sullivan, III, professor of literature and folklore at East Carolina University, will be senior lecturer in the English Studied department at the University of Debrecen.
Sullivan said he is looking forward to returning to Debrecen, a city located about 100 miles east of Budapest. Sullivan had visited the University of Debrecen in January 2005 to deliver the keynote address at the gathering of the Hungarian Society for the Study of English.
“I’ll be teaching my undergraduate students about American folklore traditions, but what I want to do is to get them talking about Hungarian folklore, too,” Sullivan said. “That way everyone gets to learn, me included.”
In addition to teaching the American folklore course, as well as a graduate seminar in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Sullivan hopes to comb the region’s library archives for information about Celtic and Norse migration and trade routes to the region.
