Chancellor tours Carteret

(Oct. 23, 2001)   —   Dr. William V. Muse, the new chancellor of East Carolina University, will continue his hometown tour of eastern North Carolina with visits to Morehead City and Beaufort on Wednesday (October 24).

Muse, who became the chief executive of ECU on Aug. 1 after nine years as head of Auburn University in Alabama, plans to tour cities throughout the region during his first year in office. The trip Wednesday will be his second. Other visits scheduled this year include Elizabeth City on Nov. 28 and New Bern on Dec. 11.

“This tour is giving me the opportunity to become better acquainted with the people of eastern North Carolina,” Muse said. “ECU is a university that serves the entire region, and I need to know the aspirations of the citizens and what they need and expect from us.”

Muse will visit West Carteret High School, Carteret Community College, and Jarrett Bay Marine Industrial Park.

He will also participate in a question-and-answer session with area government, business, education and civic leaders at a luncheon at the Crystal Coast Civic Center and host a reception for alumni, Pirate Club members and other friends of the university at the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
