Flu and pneumonia education program to be held Aug. 30
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Learn how to prevent flu and pneumonia before flu season begins at an informational session hosted by East Carolina University on Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Moye Medical Building.
Part of the Better Breathing-Better Health Patient Education Conference, the session will be held 6-8 p.m. Registration is free and will be accepted up to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.
Discussion will be led by Dr. Mani S. Kavuru, chief of the ECU Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and Terry Icard, physician assistant and program coordinator.
Flu and pneumonia can be serious threats to health, particularly for people with asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema or other lung diseases. Young children, older adults and those with certain health problems also are at risk. Vaccinations are important in preventing illness. Because some people hesitate to have the vaccine fearing they will get sick, presenters will address concerns about vaccines. While vaccinations are the mainstay of flu and pneumonia prevention, there are other ways to help reduce the chance of getting sick. Topics to be discussed include causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of flu and pneumonia.
The Moye Medical Building is located at 521 Moye Blvd. in Greenville, across from the Brody School of Medicine. For more information or to register, call Icard at (252) 744-1713 or e-mail icardt@ecu.edu.
