ECU joins Carteret and Craven in degree program partnership
East Carolina University and the community colleges in Carteret and Craven Counties has opened an office in Morehead City as part of a new program to help students complete their bachelor’s degrees without long-distant commutes to university campuses.
The ECU Division of Continuing Studies, under a partnership with the community colleges, will offer three degree programs — Middle Grades Education, Industrial Technology and Information Processing/Administrative Services — in Morehead City and New Bern. Some courses will also be taught at Havelock Middle School and others will involve Internet and computer technology that will eventually allow students to attend classes without leaving their homes.
ECU and community college officials and legislators from the area attended the official opening of the new partnership office at Carteret Community College on Aug. 15.
The Carteret/Craven Degree Program is designed for individuals with an associate degree or those that have completed enough college transfer courses to be considered for entry into a degree program. Admission requires the completion of at least six semester hours (nine quarter hours) of transferable credit in each of the following areas — English, math, science and social science.
Registration for the degree programs is Aug. 15 and 20 at Carteret Community College in Morehead City and Aug. 19 and 21 at Craven Community College in New Bern.
