Chancellor wins first honor society award

Dr. Richard R. Eakin, chancellor of East Carolina University, has received the Ambassador of Excellence Award from Sigma Beta Delta, a national honor society.

The award recognizes individuals from business, government and education for their work in management and administration. Eakin was the first recipient of the award. The presentation came during the recent biennial convention of Sigma Beta Delta, held in Haines City, Fla. Delegates from 111 chapters in 37 states attended the program.

Eakin was recognized at the meeting for his “encouragement, support and inspiration in advancing the honor society as an important and integral element within higher education.” Honor societies offer membership to students, faculty and alumni and applaud the scholarship, leadership and service of their members. The award included $1,000 to be given to the charity of Eakin’s choice.

Sigma Beta Delta, based in St. Louis, Missouri, is an honor society for students of business, management and administration. Established in 1994, the society provides national recognition for outstanding students enrolled in regionally or nationally accredited colleges and universities.
