Three new trustees to join ECU board

Three new members have been appointed to the East Carolina University Board of Trustees by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
The new members, who will be sworn in at the July meeting of the board, are Dan V. Kinlaw of Fayettevile, a business executive; Willie C. Martin of Wilmington, Del., a chemical company executive; and Henry G. Williamson Jr. of Winston-Salem, a banker.

The UNC board also reappointed Phillip R. Dixon, a Greenville attorney who is secretary of the ECU board.

All appointments are for four-year terms. The new members replace William C. Baggett of Winston-Salem, William P. Furr of Charlotte; and Dr. Valeria O. Lovelace of Teaneck, N.J. All three have served the maximum two consecutive terms.

Kinlaw, owner of Fayetteville Moving & Storage, International Moving & Storage and Kinlaw Development Co., is a 1965 graduate of ECU. His wife and their two daughters also hold ECU degrees.

He is a director of First Citizens Bank, a lifetime member of the ECU Educational Foundation, and a patron of the Cape Fear Regional Theater. He is a former co-chairman of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Martin is director of Dacron global operations for DuPont. He is a former manager of the DuPont plant in Kinston. He is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and holds a master’s degree from the University of Virginia.

He is a member of the ECU Board of Visitors and was named an honorary alumnus of the university this month.

Williamson, the chief operating officer of Southern National Corp. and BB&T, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from ECU. He is a board member of the ECU Foundation and the ECU Medical Foundation.

He was co-chairman of Shared Visions, the ECU capital campaign that raised more than $50 million for the university.
