ECU’s College of Education launches E-Journal

GREENVILLE, NC  —   Faculty members of East Carolina University’s College of Education have launched the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction (JoCI).

The peer-reviewed, online publication will be published twice a year by the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, according to managing editor Katherine A. O’Connor, and will provide a forum for articles relevant to teaching and learning in primary and secondary education for teachers, college students and researchers.

The inaugural issue is entitled: “Literacy: Best Practices in an Age of High-Stakes Assessment,” and is guest edited by Terry S. Atkinson, a curriculum and instruction professor at ECU. Sue Byrd Steinweg, a professor of curriculum and instruction at ECU, is also on the editorial team. More than 40 individuals across the nation serve on the journal’s review board.

Calls for papers are now being considered for upcoming issues. The second issue of JoCI, Social Studies Teaching & Learning: Preparing Citizens for a Global Society will be published in January 2008, and the third themed issue, Addressing the Needs of All Learners, will be published in July 2008. JoCI is made live by a journal management system developed by the Public Knowledge Project.
