ECU College of Business to launch Cunanan Leadership Speake
GREENVILLE, NC — The College of Business at East Carolina University announces the establishment of the Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series, made possible by a gift from Steve and Ellen Cunanan of Richboro, Pa. Matching funds were also provided by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation.
The Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series will bring distinguished leaders to Greenville, representing for-profit and non-profit firms, entrepreneurial activities, government, and public affairs. Topics will highlight leadership, professional development, ethics and the role of business in modern society.
The Cunanans are both alumni of East Carolina University. Ellen Cunanan graduated from the College of Business in 1988, while Steve Cunanan served as the Student Government Association President from 1986-1987 and majored in Psychology. He currently works as Vice President of Human Resources in the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Group of Companies.
Dr. Frederick Niswander, Dean of the College of Business, said, “The Cunanans have a clear understanding of the importance of leadership in modern business and society. Their generous support will enable ECU students and the Greenville community to learn from some of our nation’s most successful leaders.”
Niswander said he believes the speakers will inspire attendees to think beyond their own experiences, recognizing the impact that a single person may have on the members of his or her local, national or global community in both the public and private sectors.
The Leadership Speaker Series’ first event is scheduled for Fall 2007. Events will be open to the ECU community as well as the general public. The Series will offer three to four events each year and will be a critical component of the College of Business’ Professional Development and Leadership Program, which is currently under development.
