Morris named to economic role

Dr. J. Ted Morris, a senior economic growth official at North Carolina State University, has been named associate vice chancellor for economic development at East Carolina University.

Morris, who will also serve as director of ECU’s Regional Development Services, will join the university June 1.

At N.C. State, he is the director of economic development partnership in the Office of Extension, Engagement and Economic Development. He is responsible for connecting faculty, staff and students with business, government and communities to foster economic growth.

At ECU, Morris will serve as the university’s senior officer responsible for economic development and will be responsible for the development and operation of programs and activities that support the university’s mission as a catalyst for economic and community development.

In announcing his appointment, Dr. Deirdre Mageean, vice chancellor for research and graduate studies, said Morris will work closely with university leaders to enhance ECU‘s relations with external agencies, especially local and state agencies responsible for economic development.

Chancellor Steve Ballard said, “Ted Morris is exactly the right person for this job at ECU. He brings experience, success and passion to the job and he will help ECU make an even bigger difference. He is widely respected in the UNC system and throughout the state.”

Morris holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, all from N.C. State.
