Ride with the Voice of the Pirates Oct. 24 to raise funds for nursing scholarship
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Jeff Charles, the voice of the East Carolina University Pirates, will host a reverse Texas Hold ’em Poker Run on Saturday to raise funds for a nursing scholarship.
The motorcycle ride will benefit the Heather Anne Purtee Memorial Scholarship in the ECU College of Nursing. The scholarship is named for Debra and Jeff Charles’ daughter, who was killed in an automobile accident in December 1992. She was 19 and an ECU nursing student.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Ron Ayers Motorsports in Greenville. No pre-registration is needed. The ride to Washington will begin at 10 a.m. Stops will be at Frank’s Pizza in Washington, East Carolina Trophy in Winterville, and Hastings Ford, U.B.E. and Pirate Radio in Greenville. The poker run ends at Ron Ayers Motorsports. Lunch will be served at noon.
Cost is $10 per hand and multiple hands are welcome. Vendor displays and a 50/25/25 raffle will be held. For more information, call Ron Ayers Motorsports at 252-758-3084.
Charles is in his 22nd year as the Voice of the Pirates and has been riding motorcycles about as long. “We look forward to having everybody come out,” he said.
