Pirate Nation Gives returns to ECU for second year
ECU will celebrate its second annual Pirate Nation Gives on Wednesday, March 21. This single extraordinary day of giving encourages alumni, friends, faculty, staff, parents and students to make a donation to one of ECU’s 12 colleges and schools or the university program of their choice.
Last year’s event raised $273,663 for the university, a truly successful showcase of the generosity of Pirate Nation. This year’s midnight-to-midnight campaign aims to build on that engagement and support. In honor of ECU’s 111th year, a goal of 111 gifts of $111, 111 new donors, and 500 #PirateNationGives hashtags on social media has been set.
“By making a commitment to Pirate Nation Gives, people have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of ECU students and provide them the resources to succeed among the nation’s elite programs,” Chancellor Cecil Staton said. “ECU is committed to enriching the lives of our students with transformative learning experiences, but we need the support of alumni and friends.”
New this year are Pirate Nation Gives ambassadors Lynette Taylor, an ECU alumna and WITN news anchor, ECU employee Steven Asby and Pitt County Commissioner Glen Webb. The ambassadors have a simple, yet important mission – spread the word about Pirate Nation Gives and encourage others to give.
“It’s an exciting time for Pirate Nation to come together to show our support for the university,” Taylor said. “Attending ECU was the best decision of my life, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without that experience. Any donation, large or small, is going to make an impact.”
Alumni, parents, students and friends can share their love of ECU by making gifts, posting, tweeting and doing everything possible to make this year’s event bigger than ever. Pirate Nation Gives is about everything ECU – students, research, arts, athletics and more – and gifts can be made to whatever program donors feel most passionate about.
