Annual youth arts festival seeking artists, performers for April 22 event

A long-running youth arts festival in Greenville has outgrown its East Carolina University home and will be moving to the Greenville Town Common.

The new Community Youth Arts Festival is a joint project between ECU, which founded the festival, and the Celebration of Youth Expression, sponsored by the City of Greenville. Other partners are the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge and the arts education programs of Pitt County Schools.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. It is free and open to the public. The festival is geared to elementary, middle and high school children, but all are welcome. The festival is focused on encouraging and motivating young people to be involved in the arts.

Youth who are interested in performing or displaying visual art at the event should submit an application by March 16. Auditions will be held on Sunday, April 8.

Organizers also are seeking professional visual artists to demonstrate their art and provide hands-on activities for children. Artists can sell their work. No booth fees will be charged and no commission will be taken on any work that is sold. To participate as a visual artist, contact Dindy Reich at reichd@ecu.edu or 252-328-5749.
