ECU to host 8th grade girls for mathematics, science conference

East Carolina University will host 100 middle school girls professing an interest in science or math Friday at the MAGIC for STEM Girls’ Conference, beginning at 9 a.m. in Mendenhall Student Center.
The 8th grade Pitt County girls were selected by Pitt County middle school faculty members for their potential for success in mathematics and science.
Following an opening ceremony at 9:15 a.m. in Hendrix Theatre, the girls will join in real-life applications of science and math at the Science and Technology Building. After lunch on campus, participants will return to Mendenhall for the closing ceremony and an origami geometry activity.
The conference is funded by a grant from the Mathematics Association of America Tensor Program for Women and Mathematics, with support from ECU’s Division of Research, Office of Equity, Diversity & Community Relations, College of Arts and Science, College of Education and College of Technology and Computer Science.
