Butler named to ECU board
(Oct. 12, 2004) — Joel Butler, vice president for external affairs for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, has been named to the East Carolina University Board of Trustees.
Butler, who was appointed last week by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, will be sworn in at the Dec. 10 trustees meeting. He holds a master’s degree from ECU in public administration and is chairman of the university’s Board of Visitors, an advocacy organization.
Butler, who previously was vice president for support services at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, joined the hospital in 1989. He is a member of the board of directors of the Global TransPark Authority and chairman of the Chambers of Commerce of North Carolina’s Eastern Region. He also serves on the boards of numerous other organizations, including the Pitt County Development Commission, Literacy Volunteers, and Pitt County United Way.
He succeeds Willie Martin of Wilmington, Del., a DuPont executive, on the ECU board.
