ECU moved up in U.S. News rankings

GREENVILLE, NC   (Aug. 20, 2004)   —   East Carolina University has moved up to the third tier of national doctoral universities in the latest annual rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report.

ECU is one of 248 universities nationwide listed in the national doctoral category compiled by the magazine based on the strength and breadth of doctoral and research programs. The university was first included in this group in 2001 and was in the fourth tier last year.

Other universities in North Carolina in the national doctoral group are UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, N.C. State and UNC-Greensboro.

Chancellor Steve Ballard said, “It’s nice to move up on a list, but our focus is always on what we add to the student experience once they arrive on the campus. Student success is central to our values and what we want to me measured by.”

Many of the U.S. News rankings are in the issue of the magazine available on newsstands Aug. 23.
