Clinic opens for ECU staff, family

GREENVILLE, N.C.   (Mar. 10, 2004)   —   A new internal medicine clinic has opened for East Carolina University employees and their adult dependents for urgent care, physicals and minor illnesses and injuries.

The clinic is at Medical Pavilion Suite 6. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to noon except on state holidays. The clinic is staffed with general internal medicine faculty from the Brody School of Medicine. Residents do not staff the clinic.

While patients sometime wait several days or weeks to see an ECU faculty member, this clinic promises patients can call one day and see a doctor late that day or the next.

“The purpose of the clinic is to increase access … for people who want to see a faculty member,” said Dr. Carlos Estrada, chief of general internal medicine at ECU. “We’re there, we want to see patients and we’re available.”

Dr. Sangnya Patel, ECU clinical associate professor of medicine, is the clinic’s medical director. The clinic accepts the same insurance plans as other ECU clinics.
