Student store donates $365,000 to scholarships
East Carolina University received $365,000 to be used in scholarships from the Dowdy Student store. The donated funds are from a portion of sales.
“We feel we are a big part of the students’ experience,” said Wanda Scarborough, director of ECU-Dowdy student stores. “We see the students from when they first arrive at East Carolina until they graduate. It is a pleasure to give this money back.”
Four cents of every dollar spent at the stores is designed for scholarships and contributions to university programs, said Kevin Seitz, vice chancellor for administration and finance. This year, the ECU Dowdy Student Store provided $300,000 to the General Resource Scholarship Fund, $35,000 to athletic scholarships and $30,000 to medical school scholarships.
