Dr. David White has been appointed the new dean of ECU’s Honors College.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to lead the Honors College,” said White. “It is a central part of ECU’s mission and I believe the college has already had a positive impact on our university.”

White has been at ECU for 35 years and spent most of his career within the university’s College of Health and Human Performance, where he served as associate dean and department chair for health education and promotion. He also is an adjunct professor with the Brody School of Medicine.

ECU Provost Ron Mitchelson said White is a proven academic leader.

“He is highly respected among all peers. His work ethic and creativity will serve us well in his new role as dean of the Honors College,” said Mitchelson.

As dean, White will oversee an expansion of the Honors College that will double enrollment size from 400 to 800 students over the next four years. The university will enroll 200 freshmen in the Honors College program in fall 2017, up from 100 this year.

“The Honors College is slated to grow significantly over the next four years and I am looking forward to working with leaders in the college and across the campus and community to achieve that goal,” said White.

White is a member of the Pitt County Economic Development Commission and has served as chair of the Pitt County Schools Health Advisory Council and Pitt County Mental Health Board of Directors. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Tennessee, his master’s degree from Radford College and his bachelor’s degree from Concord College.
