Events mark Veterans Day, military service

East Carolina University will host a number of speakers and events this week and next in honor of Veterans Day.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, New York Times best-selling author Craig Mullaney keynoted the “Focus on Veterans Summit: Successfully Transitioning from Military to Campus Education” at the Greenville Hilton. Mullaney, author of “The Unforgiving Minute,” spoke at the luncheon session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event was sponsored by the ECU Office of Student Transitions and the Office of Military Programs.
From 2:30-4 p.m., Mullaney will speak to ECU College of Business students in the Green Room of the Croatan.
On Friday, Nov. 8, retired CIA agent James Cunningham with 32 years of experience as a member of the Senior Intelligence Service will discuss security planning to counter terrorism and the impact on sustainable operations. His will speak at 3 p.m.in Room C-309 of the Industry & Technology Building.
Since retiring from the CIA, Cunningham has worked as a principal author and subject-matter expert on terrorism and infrastructure protection for the rebuilt New York World Trade Center’s Master Security Plan; served as a commissioner on the Department of Homeland Security’s Security Advisory Panel; served on the special advisory panel member for the Executive Director of the Central Intelligence Agency; and is the author of the Concept of Operations for the first Information Sharing and Analysis Center.
On Monday, Nov. 11, ECU will hold its annual Veterans Day paver dedication at 2 p.m. near Christenbury Gymnasium. Thirty-seven pavers will be dedicated. Tim Wiseman, ECU assistant vice chancellor for enterprise risk management and a retired Army colonel, will host the event, and Dr. Jim Bearden, director of the BB&T Center for Leadership Development at ECU and an Army veteran, will speak.
