ECU trustees re-elect Greczyn

Bob Greczyn, president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, has been re-elected chair of the East Carolina University Board of Trustees.

Also elected at the board’s meeting on the ECU campus Thursday were David Brody, vice chair, and Robbie O. Hill, secretary. All three officers will serve one-year terms.

Greczyn, a member of the ECU board for five years and a 1973 graduate, said he appreciates the opportunity to lead the board for a second term and will continue to work with board members, the chancellor and the campus community to help ECU continue to achieve its goals.

Greczyn praised the General Assembly’s approval this month of $70.5 million to complete construction for ECU’s new dental school and another $36.8 million to upgrade the family medicine center.

“It was a very good legislative session for us,” Greczyn said. “We did get full funding for the dental school and most importantly we got full funding for our family medicine center. I don’t think any of us would underestimate the impact of that.”

Both Greczyn and ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard pledged to continue to pursue indigent care funding at the Brody School of Medicine.

Brody, a Kinston developer and philanthropist, joined the ECU board in 2003. Hill, a Kinston health care executive, has been a board member since 2001 and is chair of the Health Sciences Committee.

ECU’s newest trustee, Andrew H. Griffin, was sworn in. Griffin, a senior finance major, was elected by the student body to serve as president of the Student Government Association.

The ECU Board of Trustees will meet next on Sept. 25 and 26.
