ECU OA: Rebecca Powell

Why did you choose ECU and what are some things that you love most about ECU? Some reasons that I chose ECU besides academics are the environment, community and outgoingness that the campus exudes. All these feelings made me eager to join the Pirate community!

What do you remember from your own orientation that made you want to be an OA? Something from my own OA session that made me want to become an OA are the connections between every OA. Seeing the OA’s relationships with each other helped me feel more at ease seeing how nice and supportive they are with each other. This was further solidified when I went to ECU’s Camp Pirates.

How will your experiences shape your approach as an OA? My own experiences have made me want to be a friend and support for the incoming students so they can feel the sense of community that I felt.

What do you hope incoming students and family members takeaway from orientation? Something that I want incoming students and parents to take away from orientation is that for the parents their kid is safe and incorporated into the ECU Pirate community. For the students, collage is whatever you want it to be, there are countless opportunities for you so go out and take it!
