ECU OA: Dakota Riffle

Major: Sociology

Hometown: Cameron

Why did you choose ECU and what are some things that you love most about ECU? I chose ECU originally for their nursing program but found my love for sociology second semester of freshman year. What I love about ECU is the amount of resources they provide to help their students. Examples include mental health counseling, writing center, free tutoring, Purple Pantry, and more.

What do you remember from your own orientation that made you want to be an OA? I remember the OAs being crazy, very energetic, friendly and funny. I felt that I fit in with the craziness and wanted to be a part of the OA family!

How will your experiences shape your approach as an OA? I’ve experienced that being myself is the best thing for myself and others! When I’m being myself people feel more comfortable with me which is really important during orientation. I will be that someone you can feel comfortable with to be your friend, to ask for advice, and more!

What do you hope incoming students and family members takeaway from orientation? I hope students and family will have fun during orientation and take into consideration the resources ECU provides and where to find them. These resources can make a huge difference during the students’ undergrad years.
