Innovation Expo will be held April 2
GREENVILLE, N.C.— Area health care providers, faculty, students, staff and the public are invited to an Innovation Expo to be held Thursday, April 2, at the East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina University.
The free event will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on west campus. Keynote speaker will be Jerry York, vice president and chief information officer for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. York will address ways that institutions can foster new discoveries by breaking down barriers and supporting innovative activities.
Concurrent sessions will be held with presentations by ECU faculty and students who are using innovative technology in their research. Topics will include Second Life at ECU, the Wii Fit revolution, personal health record and information management, telehealth and distance education, gaming technology and nursing skills, and simulation.
Exhibitors will give away prizes including a Dell mini laptop, Apple iPod shuffle, gift certificates, a spa package and more. Vendors such as Verizon Wireless, Touch of Life Technologies, Exam Master, Ovid Technologies, MD Consult and others will be available to discuss hardware and software technologies to enhance health sciences education.

The event will be hosted by ECU’s Laupus Library, Information Technology and Computing Services, Multimedia & Technology Services, the Eastern Area Health Education Center and the East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU. The project is supported in part with federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services under contract with the University of Maryland Baltimore.
