SGA introduces a new online mental health and wellness platform for students

East Carolina University is introducing a new, online mental health and wellness platform for students called YOU@ECU.
The idea came from the Dean of Students office and was presented to the ECU Student Government Association for support and promotion.
Molly McConnell, the SGA’s director of health and wellness, said that the process to get started with YOU@ECU is simple.
“To be able to use YOU@ECU, students just need to log in with their PirateID and Pirate Port information. Then they can take three wellness assessments. After you take them, they connect you to resources both on and off campus,” McConnell said.
The platform not only addresses physical and mental wellness, but also career and campus connections and how to prepare for interviews.
“I think YOU@ECU does a great job showing how you can be well in every aspect of your life,” McConnell said.
McConnell said she hopes that the platform will give students an option to connect with resources that they need.
“I think this website is much needed because when I came to ECU as a transfer student, I wasn’t sure what to do or where to go when I needed something, so YOU@ECU really streamlines that process,” McConnell said.
McConnell said that SGA president Colin Johnson decided to create a director of mental health and wellness position so the initiative could be better supported.
In addition to the website, McConnell said there would be ambassadors for YOU@ECU to help market and promote the platform to students.
“It really helps me out with marketing and promoting so more people know about YOU@ECU and that will allow me to focus more on my duties as director and talk more with university officials about how we can amplify YOU@ECU,” McConnell said.
