ECU celebrates the season with holiday art and music events
The School of Art and Design Holiday Exhibition and Sale is an East Carolina University holiday tradition returning Nov. 21-23.
Exceptional art made by undergraduate and graduate students will be available for purchase, including photography, textiles, jewelry, scarves, sculpture, drawings, paintings, prints, ceramics and more.
The opening reception is 4-8 p.m. Thursday. The show continues from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The gallery is in Jenkins Fine Arts Center near the intersection of Fifth and Jarvis streets in Greenville. The center is handicapped accessible.
Cash, check, credit cards and digital transactions will be accepted. Proceeds directly benefit students and faculty. The event is organized by ECU student art guilds and the Visual Arts Forum.
In keeping with tradition, ECU Chamber Singers, University Chorale and Concert Choir will present Sounds of the Season at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville. The event is free and open to the public with a live stream available on YouTube.
That same weekend, a handblown glass holiday sale will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication office in the Proctor-Yongue House on Fifth Street, across from the Jenkins Fine Arts Center. The sale will be in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7, featuring TubaChristmas playing on the front porch of the Proctor-Yongue House from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Glass ornaments, flowers, vases, cups, bowls and sculptures made at ECU’s GlasStation will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the facility and programs.
ECU professors, students and community musicians will participate in an outdoor performance featuring traditional holiday songs arranged for a large ensemble of tubas, baritones, euphoniums and sousaphones. Any musician who plays those instruments is invited to perform in TubaChristmas by making a $10 donation to benefit the Harvey Phillips Foundation. Musician registration will be 10-10:45 a.m. at the Proctor-Yongue House. For more information or to register to perform, call 252-328-1693 or email williamsjarr17@ecu.edu.
