ECU Alumni Association welcomes new board members
The East Carolina University Alumni Association approved seven new members to join its board of directors. The elected members serve three-year terms that will end in 2023.
The new members are Robert Cherry, Jamie Edwards Cullin, Sue Ann Forrest, Jonathan Russell, Bianca Shoneman, Allen Smith and Christy Wallace. The board operates to provide strategic direction, resources and professional expertise to carry out the university’s alumni engagement objectives.
“We are pleased to welcome our new members to the ECU Alumni Association Board. These are creative, diverse, dedicated and enthusiastic alumni with a true desire to support their alma mater through volunteer service, leadership and advocacy,” said Scott Francis, associate vice chancellor for alumni relations.
Cherry ’04 studied criminal justice at ECU and is now a fraud investigator for GEICO in Greenville. He has served as the co-chair for the ECU 40 under 40 committee for the past two years.
Cullin ’05 of Charlotte received a bachelor’s degree in business and now works in accounting and finance for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. She is also on the board for the World Customs Organization.
Forrest ’18 of Raleigh received her master’s in public administration and now works for the North Carolina Medical Society. She has also been a member of The Oakwood School board since 2017.
Russell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2002, and his master’s in public administration in 2017, both from ECU. He is the city manager of Washington and a past president of the Elm City Rotary Club.
Shoneman ’99 ’08 is the former president and CEO for Uptown Greenville. While working for the city of Greenville, she hosted several Pirate Nation events such as Freeboot Friday and Pirate Fest. She is now the president and CEO of Cool Spring Downtown District. Shoneman earned both a bachelor’s in rehabilitation studies and a master’s in geography from ECU.
Smith ’03 is the president and CEO of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina. In 2019, he was awarded the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives 2019 40 Under 40 award. Smith received a bachelor’s degree in political science from ECU in 2003.
Wallace ’89 of Greenville studied communications at ECU and now works at Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty. She is also a board member for the American Red Cross of Eastern N.C. and a Greenville Museum of Art planning committee member.
