Participants will Storm the Stadium in ultimate scholarship fundraising challenge
Storm the Stadium, described as the most challenging stair run in eastern North Carolina, is set for 8 a.m. Saturday at East Carolina University’s Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The event raises funds for scholarships for military-affiliated ECU students. There are currently more than 1,800 student veterans and military dependents who attend ECU.
Individual and team options are available. Participants will leave in waves every 10 minutes until 9:30 a.m. Teams of up to five people will leave together during the same wave time.
There are three ways to join the challenge:
- Walking – Participants who don’t want to tackle the stairs can challenge themselves to get the most pedometer steps during the event. Participants will walk under the stadium.
- Regular – Climb all the stairs in the lower bowl. Volunteers will be posted to keep everyone organized along the route.
- Ultimate – Do all 3,200 steps in the lower bowl and the upper deck as well as four body strength stations throughout the course.
Registration for individuals is $20 for the walking challenge, $25 for regular, and $35 for ultimate. Team registration is $15 person on a walking team; $20 per person for regular; and $30 per person for an ultimate team. Click the link to register for Storm the Stadium.
Prizes will be awarded to the top individual finisher in each competition category.
The event, now in its eighth year, is hosted by ECU Student Veteran Services and sponsored by ECU’s Military and Veteran Resource Center, ECU Student Affairs, and ECU’s Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC, which are part of the College of Health and Human Performance.
Volunteers are needed to help with registration and timing (must have a smartphone or iPad with internet access). To volunteer, email Lisa Brown, program coordinator for the Military and Veteran Resource Center, at brownli@ecu.edu by Thursday.
