ECU alumna named director of UNC System presidential search committee
The search for the UNC system’s next leader is being led by ECU alumna Kimberly Strach, the university system announced Friday.
Strach will serve as the director of the presidential search committee effective immediately. The UNC system president will oversee 17 campuses across the state, including ECU, that serve nearly 250,000 college and gifted high school students. The role was vacated in March when Margaret Spellings stepped down.
“Kim is the perfect choice to serve as director, due to her outstanding record of professional service of nearly two decades at the N.C. State Board of Elections, her integrity and her exemplary professional reputation,” committee co-chairs Randy Ramsey and Wendy Murphy said in a joint statement.
Strach graduated from ECU in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. For the past 19 years, she has served on the N.C. State Board of Elections, first as an elections investigator where she became known for her work in high-profile corruption cases. She later served as deputy director of campaign finance. In 2013, she was appointed as executive director of the board. In this capacity, she oversaw all 100 county boards of elections in North Carolina in the administration of elections and statewide compliance of campaign finance laws.
“I want to thank the committee for appointing me and providing me the opportunity to serve,” Strach said in a statement. “I am confident that this committee will discover the perfect candidate to lead the UNC System as president.”
