Housing fair reaches students living off campus

GREENVILLE, N.C.— Lucia Brannon, coordinator of Off-Campus Student Services at East Carolina University, strives to introduce students to services available to them on campus.
But, with more than 70 percent of ECU’s students living off campus, it can be a challenge to spread the word, she said.
That’s what makes ECU’s Off-Campus Housing Fair, held March 17 in the Mendenhall Student Center Brickyard, a valuable tool. “This is a great opportunity for our students to get to know what is available to them in this community,” Brannon said.
Forty housing vendors from around Greenville attended the event, supplementing brochures and information about their apartment complexes with games, giveaways and free food. Also represented were the Greenville and ECU Police departments, ECU Dining Services, Career Services and other campus agencies.
“ECU students have access to a lot of services on campus that are free to them, but they may not know about them,” Brannon said. “The fair is a great way for them to pick up information on their way to class.”
This year’s fair was the third of its kind. The event has grown every year, Brannon said.
