Public relations alumna receives national recognition
An East Carolina University alumna was a finalist in the 2021 Platinum PR Awards presented Nov. 16.
Summer Falgiano received honorable mention in the PR Professional of the Year: Corporate category. Falgiano graduated in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations from ECU. She earned a minor in merchandising.
Falgiano is senior public relations manager for CircleCI, a leading developer tooling company headquartered in San Francisco. She was nominated for the national public relations award by coworkers for her work elevating the company’s media presence by more than 400% since she joined in 2019.
“These awards and their finalists honor the communicators who represent the best of the best — those who have reached the pinnacle of innovation and industry knowledge,” said Erika Bradbury, content director for PR News. “The individuals, teams and campaigns honored today are the preeminent forces in PR and have earned a sought-after place in public relations history. These awards are about being bold, having that ‘X Factor’ and achieving groundbreaking results.”
At ECU, Falgiano founded and was editor-in-chief of The Hook, ECU’s student interest magazine, in 2014, and worked in various roles at the East Carolinian from 2011 to 2014. She credits coursework in the School of Communication along with her experiences in student media for helping her get to where she is in her career today.
