Campus Living Update — Aug. 11, 2021
Dear Pirates,
We are looking forward to your arrival as we prepare for a new and adventuresome year. ECU has updated its policies regarding the wearing of cloth face coverings (masks), so we also need to provide additional guidance on our Fall planning for those students living on-campus. Please remember that our collective efforts are to help you protect yourself and the ones you love, while also enjoying this special time and all that ECU has to offer.
In keeping with this spirit, you will be able to host only on-campus residence-hall students as guests in your rooms. You are welcome to visit with students and others who do not live in University owned residence halls in our public lobbies as long as you are following the guidance, we are providing for face coverings. The one exception to this is the assistance you receive moving into your room during move-in from your parents or other guests. We encourage you to pack a little lighter and please limit your helpers to just a few individuals.
Students living in on campus residence halls will need to wear a face covering when:
- Entering and exiting the buildings, along with navigating through the buildings.
- In building lobbies, study lounges, and when attending programs or events inside their residence halls. You can remove your face covering for eating and drinking.
- In the Fitness Point Gym, located on College Hill next to Jones Hall.
- In your rooms with the doors open.
- In elevators.
- Visiting or conducting business in the Neighborhood Services Office or using the computer lab in White Hall.
- Answering your door.
Campus Living recommends that students wear a face covering when:
- Moving from their rooms to the restroom facilities on their floor.
- Using the restroom at times other than showering or brushing your teeth.
- In rooms with students other than their assigned roommate.
- Hosting guests in their residence hall room.
While we know this is not how we wanted to start the year, we are determined to persist safely to mitigate our risks and enjoy all that comes with being a Pirate. Thank you in advance for being adaptable. We are hopeful that we will be able to go back to a more normal environment as we limit COVID 19 spread and the vaccination rates in our communities increase.
