ECU Chancellor Philip G. Rogers has been elected to the American Council on Education Board of Directors. His term will begin Oct. 1.

Prior to becoming ECU’s chancellor in 2021, Rogers was senior vice president for learning and engagement at ACE, where he guided institutions navigating complex challenges facing the global higher education landscape and advocated for institutions across the higher ed sector. He was responsible for ACE’s academic, research and innovation strategy, overseeing five separate divisions including advancement and fundraising, education attainment and academic innovation, global engagement and internationalization, leadership and professional learning, and research.

“I am honored to serve as an ACE board member and work with colleagues from across the country as we advance the value our institutions bring to the communities we serve,” Rogers said. “My experience at ACE before returning to ECU reinforced the importance of collaboration and shared vision among the leaders of our country’s institutions of higher education.”

ECU hosted ACE President Ted Mitchell during the university’s R1 announcement earlier this year. During his visit, Mitchell praised ECU’s research productivity. “This is the university that is creating the model for what the American research university will be in the future,” he said.

ACE is a membership organization that leads higher education with a united vision for the future. As the major coordinating body for the nation’s colleges and universities, ACE has a wide-ranging membership of more than 1,600 colleges and universities, related associations, and other organizations in America and abroad. ACE is the only major higher education association to represent all types of U.S. accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities.
